There are many reasons an adult may develop communication difficulties. Adults may lose their ability to use and understand language after strokes, brain injuries, surgery, and progressive diagnoses such as Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis or brain tumours.
Strokes and brain injuries are common causes for adults to acquire communication challenges. The loss of language experienced by these individuals is called aphasia.
